MEXICO CURRENCY; EXCHANGING MONEY
Local currency is the Mexican Peso and is one of the most stable currencies in Latin America. The exchange rate may vary but is currently approximately 10.50 pesos for each US dollar. US dollars are excpted almost everywhere but change will be given back in pesos. You can exchange dollars for pesos at a number of locations but you'll get the best exchange rates at cambios or banks.

Note that entry fees to Tulum must be paid in pesos.

Credit cards are accepted at many shops and restaurants, but some of the smaller businesses and restaurants do not take credit cards.

There are ATMs (in Akumal, Playa and Tulum) where you can get pesos. There is usually a daily withdrawal limit of 2000 to 3000 pesos; and there may be a small processing fee.
